Welcome to the Coleg Elidyr Application Procedure page.
The process is the same for day students and residential placements.
We hope you will find this process easy to follow, but if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us on 01550 760400.

If you have not explored our website already may we suggest you do so before completing any forms. This will enable you to obtain an overview of our college and enable you to discover what we are able to offer our students.

The following forms will be required to complete your application:

1.  The application form, downloaded from here:

2.  A Medical form, to be completed by a medical practitioner:

3.  An optional form, to be completed by the student:

4.  An Equal Opportunities form

the above forms are in .pdf format, and need Acrobat Reader to open them. If you don't have the program installed, click here

5.  you may want to read Coleg Elidyr's Students' Guide. It explains what we expect from our students, and what they can expect from us

The Application Procedure:

  1. Complete and return the Application Form and Student's Form along with the reports as listed on page 8 of the application form.
  2. Pass on the Medical Questionnaire to your GP for completion and return to Coleg Elidyr.
  3. The Admissions Group will consider the application form and all information that has been submitted.
  4. If we decide that this would not be a suitable placement we will write to you and explain the reasons.
  5. If we decide that this could be a suitable placement we will contact you to arrange a Day Assessment for your son or daughter (Please see below)
  6. Following the Day Assessment, the community will decide whether this is an appropriate place for your son or daughter. (please note that we have to arrange more Day Assessments than we have spaces available; we may have to cancel an Assessment if we reach our intake quota of new students before your son or daughter is scheduled to come).
  7. If a placement is offered and accepted by you on behalf of your son or daughter, then the process of applying for funding begins. This is usually done via the Careers Service (or Connexions in England) and/or Social Services.
  8. If the funding is forthcoming we will send out a Welcome Pack of further information (which includes the Student's Handbook and Student's Guide along with a Handbook for Parents) shortly before the student is due to start.
  9. All admissions are subject to a three month probationary period.

What happens during a Day Assessment:

A day assessment starts at 9.30 and ends at 4pm. We invite the prospective student along with two adults who know him/her well.

- A parent, guardian or responsible adult will accompany the prospective student to the learning areas to ensure he/she has a familiar person nearby whilst taking part in the work lesson.

- A parent, guardian or responsible adult will need to complete a Care Assessment and an Education Assessment in discussion with a member of college staff.

- The student will experience at least two of the timetabled sessions during that day.

- The parents, guardians or responsible adults will be invited to a residential house for lunch whilst the student will be invited to another residential house so that we can observe how they interact with other students and staff.

- · There will also be the opportunity for the prospective student and the accompanying adults to meet with one of our students and staff to hear from them about life in the college and for asking questions.

As the Day assessment involves a full day, some parents may find it easier to stay nearby on the previous evening. A list of bed and breakfast providers is available from the office, please call us on 01550 760400.

Is Coleg Elidyr the right place?

An informal visit consists of:

- A member of staff escorting you around the college to see the learning areas and at least one residential house.
- You will usually meet students and teachers whilst walking around the college and will be able to ask questions as you walk around.
- Please allow at least two hours for this visit.
- Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and for uneven terrain.

Coleg Elidyr is committed to promoting equal opportunities for all, and each prospective student can expect to be treated fairly and with respect.
