Some quotes from parents and students in reviews

Mr and Mrs H are very, very happy with Coleg. They can’t believe that they’d struggled to find placement for so long and then found something like Coleg Elidyr for M. They know he needs to be busy. He likes to do something useful and purposeful, and easily sees through non productive activities. His abilities are being extended and he is making progress in all areas. They see more independence skills every time he comes home. They appreciate how far he’s got. He is physically very fit, strong and healthy. M is thriving in this environment. Hopefully, there is a lot more to come.

M has been helping to pot up small plants at home. He clearly has an aptitude for working outdoors and on the land. Where better for him to be than in a community like this one where he can do work he enjoys. The other thing is that he is living in community with people like himself, and he thrives on living where it’s all going on. He can anticipate what is going to happen. This is just exactly the right environment for him at the moment. ‘M has changed so much in the time he’s been here. We can’t believe that we’ve found something so ideal for him. We can’t imagine anywhere else where he could have gone and done woodwork, basketry, weaving, etc. He also has pleasure out of making things and bringing them home, e.g. his candlesticks are on the table.’

Mr and Mrs H have great peace of mind when they leave M here in seeing how happy he is, the happy household, and the good environment.

‘Coleg is a brilliant place … we are very happy with D’s progress and can see a great difference in him.’

Mr & Mrs M were thrilled with A’s positive report – he may as well have got a degree! They are thoroughly delighted with his progress. ‘He is a much calmer person. He loves his college and his work here. Work is the most important thing in his life. He gets his self-respect and self-worth here. He is immensely proud of his community – the care workers and all the students. The Community give him a sense of belonging. It such a relief to know that he is here.’

A refers to the male student in his house his ‘brothers’. Mr & Mrs M particularly wanted to thank K for his work with A and that he had given him so much and that this has gone beyond just doing a job. Mrs M also likes the fact that our co-workers come from all over the world and there are so many different cultures converging here.

‘The staff at Coleg Elidyr do an amazing job … you have been very understanding of all situations. We’ve found a level of integrity that we’ve never come across before. You look at a student from the perspective of the whole person. You have a different motivation.’

T’s father said that he and his wife ‘are absolutely delighted as T so obviously enjoys the life at Coleg Elidyr.’ They would both like to thank the community and staff at Coleg Elidyr as they can go away knowing that T is safe and well looked after.

D appears very happy in his environment and he enjoys going to all his lessons. D is a very contented person and he is rarely seen without a smile on his face. ‘Happy!’ was the response from D’s parents when asked how they felt about the provision. They are glad that D is so content and they have no worries about leaving him at Coleg Elidyr as they know he is always going to be safe and secure.

R gives a resounding, ‘Yes!’ to the question, ‘Do you like it at Coleg Elidyr?’ She likes swimming, sports and just about everything else, too. ‘We could not in our wildest dreams have thought of a more suitable place. We are very much indebted to you all.

M, from the word ‘go’, has liked it here. She settled quickly and made new friends. It was a shock when she stayed for Christmas but was very happy to. As long as M is happy and making progress, I am very happy, too.

We believe that D has developed in a very positive way during the four years that she has been at Coleg Elidyr. This has been achieved by the dedication and patience of the Coleg Elidyr team – for which we are very grateful.’
