Coleg Elidyr offers education, training and support for students aged 18 – 25 years. Both residential- and day students are catered for.
All aspects of living and working in the community are geared towards the development of independence, self-confidence, self-advocacy, vocational and social skills.
This development is possible because of an integrated, holistic approach to education in the broadest sense.
In the community, students lead an active social life, living together with peers, care- and teaching staff, and young volunteers from all over the world.
Each student has an individually tailored timetable with a variety of activities, including craft work, lessons, work training and artistic activities.
Our holistic approach to education is based on anthroposophy, the philosophical, educational and social principles of Rudolf Steiner, for whom education involves development of the whole human being: body, soul and spirit.
Students are funded by the Welsh Assembly Government's Department for Children, Education Lifelong Learning and Skills, with possible sharing of funding with Social Services.
The college’s provision for education and care is regularly inspected by HMI’s from Ofsted and Estyn and by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales. You can find our inspection reports on the relevant websites (links provided on the right}.
Our workshops and land-based enterprises form a real-world environment for the students and trainees to learn. After three years, students may move on to become trainees, and the emphasis is more on choice, consolidation and developing practical skills. During this time, there is still plenty of opportunity to follow other complimentary activities of their choosing. (see The Trainee and Transition Programme )
