Victoria House lies in the centre of the historic drovers village of Llangadog, with its shops, pubs, post office, church and businesses. Llandeilo and Llandovery are within a short train or bus ride, Carmarthen and Swansea are an hour away by train.
Victoria House is a large substantial stone built house with a courtyard and a large established garden. By its geographical nature, Victoria House is a step away from the main part of the college, being fourteen miles from Rhandirmwyn. It is therefore ideally placed to offer a more independent living situation and a distinct step towards integration into the wider community.
Residents who come to live at Victoria House are encouraged to no longer think of themselves as 'students' but rather as members of the community that they live in. They are asked to take a more active part in the responsibilities of the physical, social and economical well being of the house and its environs.
The Barn is an annex to Victoria House. It is a small house adjoining the main building accommodating five residents. This offers further opportunities for those ready to become more independent whilst still being supported by the Victoria House community.
Victoria House and the Barn offer accommodation for up to nine residents, with staff accommodation in both buildings.
Each individual is supported and encouraged to find a way towards acceptance of responsibility and personal fulfilment. There is more opportunity for them to develop and practice their social and life skills, enabling them to find confidence as adults in the wider community. Integration is achieved through work experience placements, hosting social activities in the village and taking part in local events.
Bran Yard Complex is located in a large building about 100 metres from Victoria House, which houses our Coffee Shop and basket making, weaving, enamelling and soap making workshops.
These workshops are designed to create a realistic work experience environment and are also open to the general public, thereby assisting with positive integration into the wider community.
The residents also attend various markets where the goods produced in our workshops are exhibited and sold.
